Book of Poems

Description

This small and simple book was one of my mother's favorites, a collection of poems by famous authors and some written by a fellow farm woman, a soulmate, who saw the world much like mom. Poems like "The Children's Hour" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, The Pasture" by Robert Frost, "The Farmer" and "The Hummingbird's Prayer" by Beulah Baker Hanna, the author of this collection. When I look at it on my nightstand I am filled with melancholy. At 91, in a memory care center diagnosed with dementia, mom is still surrounded by a few books but they are mostly unread. If read, nothing is retained or remembered. This book has a special place in my heart as it holds a giant piece of my mother's soul--somehow lost to a cruel disease.
